It was broad daylight when an Airbnb cleaner, arrived at her usual property. As she approached, a chill ran down her spine. For the third time this month, she saw a shadowy figure in the apartment’s window. Always the same window. She brushed it off before, blaming tricks of the light, but this time something felt different. She pulled out her phone and hit record.
Through the camera lens, the figure seemed to be a pale silhouette, unmoving, as though it were staring back at her. Gathering her courage, she entered the building, heart pounding with every step. She called out, “Hello? Is someone here?” No response.
Room by room, she checked the apartment. It was completely empty.
